To commemorate ANZAC Day, Merrimac Park hosted a traditional ANZAC Ceremony attended by residents, staff, family members and honoured guests.
Held outside in the Pavilion, the moving ceremony was attended by two local servicemen from Nerang RSL, retired Doug McDonald and currently serving sailor Ben. Thank you Doug and Ben for joining us.
A few of our lovely aged care residents had prepared rosemary cuttings from our garden for people to wear and the RSL had also brought along a number of poppies for people to purchase, will all proceeds going to support former and serving members of the Australian defence forces, their allies and dependants when needed.
Two of our residents Rodger E. and Rhonda W, who lost loved ones in the World Wars laid a wreath by the flagpole in memory of our fallen soldiers.
Stephen G. led the audience in a beautiful rendition of ‘Abide with Me’ and the staff recited poems including the thought provoking ‘In Flanders Fields’.
Afterwards we enjoyed an afternoon tea of freshly baked ANZAC cookies.
Thank you to all that shared this special day with us.
