Our Merrimac aged care residents enjoyed Melbourne Cup with a Great Noodle horse race, Remembrance Day Commemorations and the celebration of 2 wedding anniversaries this month.

Melbourne Cup
Melbourne Cup day has always been a big day and this year was no exception. Punters got involved in many activities in the morning with a mad dash to the finish line in the Great Noodle horse race. Horseshoe quoits and pin the tail on the ‘donkey’. After a well earned lunch break, the punters headed back to the track for a change to mingle and chat over nibbles and punch before race. The race ends with plenty of smiling faces especially from those lucky enough to draw a 1st 2nd or 3rd. Great prized were won for the race as well as best dressed in three categories.

Remembrance Day Commemorations
Every year residents, families and staff get together to REMEMBER. The service was held at the pavilion with morning tea beginning the morning. This year 3 residents were directly involved in the service with the readings of Flanders Fields and the ‘Ode’ and laying of the wreath. The commemorative speech was read by our Hotel Services Manager who also raised and lowered the flag.

Wedding Anniversaries
Merrimac Park had the pleasure of celebrating 2 wedding anniversaries in November and it was wonderful to be able to surprise them all a little. Our 1st couple, married for 47yrs both reside at Merrimac and they celebrated the occasion with friends and family with special serenading by our performer Just Geoff on the day. Our 2nd couple celebrated their 53rd anniversary with a special morning tea held in their honour.
