The month of November was filled with various activities such as Melbourne Cup celebrations and Remembrance Day at the Merrimac Park Gold Coast Aged Care Facility.
Celebrations on Melbourne Cup Day
The day began with a full field lined up for the start of race 6 – Merrimac Cup. The morning events concluded with a fashion parade and prizes for best-dressed guy and gal.
After lunch, the punters headed back onto the track to watch their backed horse take off out the gates in the race that stopped the nation. We had plenty of happy punters with wins in all sweeps.
The day concluded with the winner of the Spring Carnival Raffle announced and afternoon tea prepared by the dynamic team in the kitchen.
A Remembrance Day ceremony was held in honour of our fallen men and women. Residents and staff joined together with readings beginning with the history of Armistice, followed by The Ode and Flanders Fields. Later we rested the wreath at the base of the flagpole to conclude the day.
A beautifully simple yet emotional service – We will Remember.
Merrimac Park has two Men’s Groups which run throughout the month. One of the groups started their first DIY project this month – tactile boards.
