The month of November was filled with various activities for the Merrimac aged care residents such as Melbourne Cup celebrations and a Remembrance Day concert.
Melbourne Cup Celebrations
Merrimac Park Private care got all dressed up for the races on Melbourne cup day . Morning events were a best dressed competition, drawing of the raffles, picking our horses and doing the sweeps for the main race.
In the afternoon, we all watched the Race with bated breath and handing out prizes to the winners.
In recognition of Remembrance Day Merrimac Park enjoys a morning concert by Irma Courtney and at 11 am observed a minute silence.
This month we enjoyed two wonderful concerts at happy hour with Just Jeff and Trevor Rix. We had some very special guest during sound Synergise when people from ANZ volunteered for the morning.
Merrimac also enjoyed the sweet presence of the tiny tots for an intergeneration program. Finally, what a better way to start the festive season with a beautiful concert by melody major performing the best of the Christmas songs.
Merrimac Park private care got creative by getting ready for Christmas and doing some decorations and cutlery holders.
Cooking was both at Raffles and Ritz. They had similar ideas when Raffles cooked up a zucchini and Lemon slice while Ritz made a vegetarian quiche.
We pride ourselves on maintaining residents independence especially in the social aspect, so when it comes to residents spending special moments with family, friends or volunteers, we are camera ready to never miss a single moment.
Meet our People
Meet John Townsend, who was born and raised in Wynnum, Brisbane. John met the love of his life, Karen in Wynnum. When they married, they moved to Redlands, brought a house and had a family. John and Karen had two children Sarah and Craig.
John did an apprenticeship in radio and television repair; this progressed into installing and repairing hospital and residential facility nurse call systems. John and his family spent their free time in the scouting community.
John’s children progressed through all the stages of scouts while John and Karen took their enjoyment from their childhood and became scout and cub leaders.
John has an interest in almost everything and loves to have educated conversations about all matters. John has made an impression on many lives, be one of the lucky ones and say hello to John.
