The month of January was filled with various activities for Australia Day as well as activities to promote social networks within the Merrimac Park Aged Care Facility on the Gold Coast.

Australia Day Celebrations

Residents will acknowledge Australia Day through arts, crafts and ever-popular word games. We celebrated the day during happy hour with some good old Australia finger foods. Staff also got into the spirit of Australia Day by showing residents that they are definitely in good hands.

Group Exercises

Exercise at Merrimac is not limited to walks and group stretch and balance classes. We also hold group modified games, which guarantees residents, which utilises physical and mental functioning as well as social skills.

Celebrating Special Days

We love to celebrate resident birthdays individually whilst supporting and assisting families with any surprises they may have in store.

Our wonderful team in the kitchen ensure our residents on modified diets don’t miss out on celebrating their birthdays to by preparing modified cakes suitable to the individual.

As anniversaries are a time that should never be overlooked, residents are assisted to ensure that the love of their life is still very much a part of them.

Social Networks

Aside from the external community social interaction, residents are also encouraged to remain socially connected in-house.

Our Merrimac aged care home offers many different events and activities throughout the month such as getting together for an afternoon tea in the garden and dance halls days. We make sure there is something for everyone!

Encouraging Passions and Past-times

The life experiences, passions and daily life tasks of our residents are encouraged to continue whilst here at Merrimac.

One of our residents is a professional artist who continues to paint, display and sell his works. Other residents continue to dabble with woodwork, make a cuppa and complete household chores. Alternatively, residents can simply relax and put their feet up.

This Month’s Activities

Interactive Drums

Residents will create their own sounds when Gareth returns with percussion and drums, which is indeed a very popular event.

Valentine’s Dinner

Valentine’s Day promises to be like no other Valentine’s Day celebrated here at Merrimac and possibly the Superior Care Group.

Shrove Tuesday

Celebrated over two days, residents will be making pancakes galore.

The Sundancers will provide entertainment during happy hour.
