September was another busy month at our Gold Coast aged care facility as we enjoyed the first month of Spring. Throughout the month our residents enjoyed Father’s Day celebrations plus visits from Somerset College and Healing Hooves.

Father’s day celebrations
Father’s day was celebrated over a few days starting of course, on Father’s day where everyone who was home had cake and of course the raffle was drawn with 4 wonderful prizes. On Monday, attending residents enjoyed lunch with family member at the Tallai Golf Club followed by Tuesdays Limousine rides, cheese and wine.

Somerset College visit
Students engaged in 1:1 and group activities with residents early September during their annual community program visit. It is always great the two generations engage in conversation, particularly the teenagers showing genuine interest in the residents sharing of memories and similar interests. The residents also got to see and hear what the teenagers are interested in by piano performances, singing, creativity board games and 1:1 interaction.

Healing Hooves visit
Regular visitors to our facility and they never disappoint. With the warmer mornings, our furry friends meet us out at the Pavilion. The residents also enjoys having the animals around, assisting in sensory, memory recollection through common interests.

This Month’s Activities

All Saints Anglican College
Every year and as part of their community program, a group of high school students head to Merrimac to perform. Music, singing, and lots of mingling. This event has always been a success and October will be no exception.

Physio fitness
Every week residents participate in specific exercise classes designed by our physio department. The exercises go for 30 minutes and currently run twice weekly with the focus on strength and balance. The exercises are suited for all abilities as they can be moderated to suit each individual.
