Last month our Redland City Aged Care residents were very busy with lots of events such as a Volunteers Christmas Party, Festive craft and a Christmas lunch as well as New Year celebrations.

Volunteers Christmas Party

We had 24 Volunteers who came to enjoy lunch as a thank you from the Management for all their dedication and hard work throughout the year.

Our volunteers were from a variety of background from talented entertainers to people from the Church who come to visit residents for special one on one time, the Circle of Men who come weekly and provide a Men’s group for our Male residents to gather and discuss Men’s business.

Everyone had a lovely time with a sing-a-long and games while being entertained by a fabulous singer. The food was terrific with many compliments to the chef.

Plus, each Volunteer received a gift to show our appreciation of the help they have given us this year.

If you are thinking of volunteering, please come along and speak to our Lifestyle staff.

Vintage Voice

Vintage Voice entertained us with a lovely Christmas concert with all the traditional favourites, and the residents were lucky enough to join in with some bells to ring throughout the performance.

Then, Vintage Voice went to visit some residents in their rooms to sing and spread the Christmas Cheer.

Cooking Activity

The Ladies Group made yummy Rum Balls for our cooking activity. They decided to wrap the plate with a big bow and a thank you poem to give to the staff.

Our Ladies Group wanted to show their appreciation to the staff for all the love and care they have received. The staff were delighted when they saw what the ladies had done.

Christmas Craft

The Christmas craft activity had seven different items to choose from. It didn’t take long for the ladies to decide what they were going to make, with everyone choosing multiple items. The felt button Christmas trees took precision work from those who attempted them while some were happy to make a small collection of Christmas baubles.

How many do I have there? Let’s line them up and count!

Ecumenical Choir

A group of lovely voices from different churches in the Redlands area have come together to form the Ecumenical Singers, and they perform for our residents every Christmas.

This year they were joined by Lilly the Lab who dressed up for the occasion. They bring a Christmas cheer and blessings to all the residents who love to sing-a-long with the group.

Residents Christmas Party and Lunch

The residents enjoyed a Christmas Lunch with a fantastic meal and entertainment.

We played some fun games with prizes going to a person at each table. We also sang some traditional and more modern songs, with the old favourite Rusty Holden Ute song to the tune of Jingle Bells. The Christmas raffle was drawn with seven lucky winners taking home a prize.

All in all, it was a fantastic morning with everyone walking away with full bellies and big smiles on their faces.

The man in the red suit deserves mention as well. To the delight of the residents, SANTA popped in for a quick visit and gave out gifts to all.

From all our residents and staff, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Carols by Candle Light

Each festive season Redland City holds Carols by Starlight and Brisbane City holds Carols by Twilight. However this year Diamond held their own magnificent Carols by Candlelight.

What a superb event it turned out to be! Residents, staff and family members joined in with the merry singing of old traditional and more modern carols with lots of laughter and good cheer.

New Year Celebrations

Residents got together this morning to celebrate the new year. We put on our hats and tiaras, made a lot of noise with the party favours and launched straight into having some fun.

There was a lovely selection of nibbles accompanied with fresh fruit as well as champagne, beer, tea and coffee. Some talked about the past year, others the coming year and some discussed some trivia of 50 years ago.

To top off the morning, we made a great attempt at singing Auld Lang Syne. The morning finished with a BANG when all the party poppers were let off…
