May was another big one with our Redlands aged care residents enjoying the Mother’s Day Morning Tea, an Outing to Redlands Sporting Club plus much more.
Mother’s Day Morning Tea
A delightful morning was had by all that joined in the fun of celebrating with all of our beautiful mothers, grandmothers, aunts and friends who have been involved with children in their lives. We all enjoyed delicious frosted cupcakes, sandwiches and fresh fruits. Our very deserving mothers all received a handcrafted box with a love heart chocolate in it. Everyone one left with smiles on their faces.
Music iPod Therapy
We have started a new music program for our residents to participate in. It involves finding the genre of music that these residents like and we then purchase the music from iTunes. These residents find they can enjoy the peacefulness of sitting either in their room or in the lounge with headphones on and listen to their music for a period of time.
During the week we did some craft to show appreciation to our volunteers for Volunteer Week. Our residents had a great time talking about their own volunteers who come and visit them, and what a fantastic job they all do.
They also enjoyed talking about the times when they were once a volunteer in the community themselves. After all these years, they still feel a great sense of achievement and still feel satisfied with themselves for the help and devotion they gave to others in their local communities.
Redlands Sporting Club Outing
Throughout the month we attended the Redlands Sporting Club for The Terrific Tuesday event held throughout the morning. We had a fantastic time playing the lucky numbers game, where 4 of our residents, (Tony, Pamela, Joan and Beryl) won prizes (2 x meat trays, 1 x stationary set and an orchid for their room). Joan and Niall went and had a flutter on the pokies with both walking away winners!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our lovely lunch, sipping a drink and sitting back listening to the music in the background. One of our ladies Rosalind said when she got back, “I had such a great day out, we really enjoyed it, now time for a sleep.”
