Last month our Wellington Park, Brisbane Aged Care Residents had a very busy October with a variety of activities such as an Oktoberfest luncheon and Halloween activities.
Oktoberfest Luncheon in Wentworth and Stanford
A taste of Germany was experienced for both buildings to celebrate Oktoberfest. The Luncheon included a Bratwurst lunch, along with a beer and a traditional German dessert to follow. We also played some music and held a trivia game. Stories were shared by residents who have visited Germany. There was also some reminiscing on the Expo 88 and the well-known Chicken Dance that came from the German Exhibition Hall.
It’s Not Only The Ladies Who Love Shopping
Today it was the men’s day out. After we checked out the supermarket aisles, it was time to do the groceries. But wait, they have stopped at the flower stand. I wonder who they have in mind for the beautiful bouquet.
Volunteers and The Difference They Make.
The smile says it all… This visit to Eden Farm with our resident and volunteer was amazing. Words cannot describe the happiness and joy that it brought to our resident.
If you would like to feel that same happiness and also make new friends, think about becoming a volunteer with our resident. You are welcome to come along anytime, we’d love to meet you.
Seaton Place Visiting Stanford for Morning Tea
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the morning tea did not go ahead as Seaton had to cancel. A future date will be planned.
Grandparents Day: Kensington Kids Visit in Wentworth
A great time was had by the young and old when Prue brought two of her Homecare Kiddies in for a visit. The Sapphire Dining area was transformed with bright coloured playmates, toys, play-doh and more!
Our residents enjoyed watching the antics of the little ones, whilst checking out the toys that are around these days. Owen read one of the children’s books out loud. Grandparents and/or Great grandparents, shared stories of their offspring. There were smiles all round.
Halloween Craft in Stanford
The residents, staff and volunteers had fun making the cardboard pumpkins and spooky heads for their upcoming Halloween morning tea. Everyone was kept busy with their projects. There were some intense moments with a lot of thought going into their masterpieces. Not to mention, some funny ones when the painted hands come at you.
Halloween Morning Tea in Stanford and Wentworth
Witches, ghouls, vampire brides and odd looking creatures joined us today whilst staff joined in for the fun-filled Halloween celebrations. Morning tea had delicious orange and black themed cupcakes and fruit was served in both buildings. There were lots of laughs and also scares as residents had a go at dressing up, using a variety of props.
Meet our People
Meet Charles, preferably known as Charlie, seen here with something he states he cannot live without, his honey. He has it on everything, even in his coffee or straight by the teaspoon. Charlie, who was born in Cairns, grew up in Milinda on the Atherton Tableland.
Charlie talks about the times he got taken to school by his Mum, 3 km each way, on her pushbike, with his brother in a basket. He also tells us how he got nicknamed Chook at school by his friends, chuckling as he adds, “Mum didn’t like that’.
Charlie became a builder, gaining an Associate Diploma in Building at QUT. He loved to play golf and also took an extreme liking to Geology and Fossicking. We all enjoy learning facts and pointers from this well-learned man. And his tip for happiness…”Keep busy, be Happy and eat Honey ” Well said Charlie!
