Merrimac Park Private Care Outing, Pasta Making, and Cinco de Mayo

Cinco De Mayo Celebration

Last month, Merrimac Park Private Care celebrated Mexican Culture and Cinco De Mayo for our regular culture recognition. Residents enjoyed Idle Australia’s lively concert, where groovers and shakers were awarded medals for their dancing skills. They also sampled Mexican salsa and guacamole while singing along and shaking homemade maracas to the beat. There’s more, we celebrated Marjorie’s 21st (plus a 70 years for experience) birthday!

Old MacDonald Visits Merrimac Park Aged Care

Old MacDonald’s farm has returned to visit to the delight of many residents and staff. This time, they came with a wiggly piglet, a chicken, a goat and a cuddly sheep. Residents smiled and laughed at the antics of Winston the pig as he gave everyone a performance of his singing (squealing) ability. Old MacDonald’s Farm returns again in September!

Mother’s Day High Tea and Irma Concert

Last month, we celebrated our Mothers, Grandmothers, Great Grandmothers and Mother figures here at Merrimac Park Private Care by enjoying a High Tea Brunch with bottomless tea and coffee. We brought out the Grandma’s finest teapot and tea cups and what they say about tea always tasting better out of a proper tea pot was true .

At Happy Hour, we pulled the winners of our Mother’s Day Raffles of Gaye and Leanne (EN). The ladies and men all came together for a Irma Concert for Happy Hour to finish off a lovely day!

Bus Outing Day

We had been testing out our new bus service here at Merrimac Park Private Care and that means, we can take Wheelchairs on outings! We did three visits in one day, the first being an early walk to Broadbeach to enjoy the coastal breeze and to be part of the community. Our Walking Group then enjoyed a hot cuppa while watching the world wake up. Next was a Picnic Lunch outing to HOTA, where residents were able to enjoy the coming and going of the Hop On Hop Off Ferry plus another great walk around the beautiful gardens. To finish off our day, a group ventured out on a Scenic Tour at Surfers Paradise with a yummy Ice Cream cone.

If you would like to be on our next Bus Outing day, it would be on the 20th of June. We’ll experience another Walking Bus Outing (weather permitting), a BBQ Lunch Outing, and another Scenic Bus Ice Cream Outing in the afternoon.

Italian National Day at Merrimac Park Private Care

On the 31st of May, we learnt about Italian Cultural by experiencing a ”Cook and Sip” Pasta Making Happy Hour. We were joined by Chef Penny who demonstrated and taunted the essential ingredients to pasta making: Flour, Eggs and Love! Some skilled and first timer assistants joined the chef to mix dough and use the pasta maker. The assistants that rose to the challenge were John X, Taeko, Margaret N, Dallas and Joyce! Chef Penny shared the history of pasta making then, cooked the pasta right in front of the audience before everyone tasted their combined hard work. Talk about Dinner and a Show!
