Wellington Park December Newsletter

Last month our residents were very busy with lots of events such as Melbourne Cup Day and a Christmas shopping outing.

Melbourne Cup

We bring the race to Wellington Park aged care home having our residents participate in a Wentworth Darby.

It was the race that stops the nation well. At Wellington Park, it was the race that stopped the residents and staff. There was a racing track made out of masking tape that had six places.

Resident’s handmade horses out of pool noodles, which hung from their wheelie walkers, were ready to move space to space at the sound of the Bluetooth speaker. When the race call sound was heard, the horses moved until the winner was announced.

The residents wanted to see the staff get into the racing spirit and joining in on the fun. All residents laughed as the staff made whipping and horse sounds.

Everyone enjoyed the spirit of the pre-race.

The winning teams receive a chocolate treat, but everyone tries so hard to make sure they are on that winning team.

Xmas shopping at Capalaba

Residents get to shop for family gifts for Christmas!

Residents of Wellington Park loaded the taxi’s ready to shop till they dropped at the Capalaba shopping centre.

The first stop was definitely to muffin break for coffee, milkshakes and the extra double choc muffins, residents ventured off in small groups in the hunt for their gifts for families, only to have some residents choosing to buy themselves gifts instead.

Redland Bay Coin and Stamp Club

Visiting members from the public come to share their love of collecting with us all. Residents met some very friendly local members of the Redlands community who came and shared their wide variety of stamp, coins and old banknotes.

Some residents could recall the specific dates the currency changed and loved hearing about why they decided to start collecting.

The residents of Wentworth laughed and cheered as the cups slowly moved off the table leaving only one cup left.

Morning music with Alistair

Residents get to enjoy a morning singalong with Alistair. During the morning show, our residents also enjoyed the company of the very lovely visiting golden retriever, Sam, for some pet therapy.

Alistair is a volunteer and performs at Wentworth and Stanford on a monthly basis with Helen and Lyn who sing old-time songs and get the residents joining in and singing along with a microphone too.
