Aged Care Gold Coast Residents Celebrated Anzac Day and Enjoyed Japanese Entertainment
Japanese Exchange Student Visit
40 high school students from Japan visited us here at our Aged Care Gold Coast facility. They entertained us with a cultural dance that told the story of a fisherman and demonstrated a traditional tea ceremony.
The students invited the residents to try Matcha Green Tea for the first time. Marie and Gloria were delighted!
Taeko enjoyed speaking her native language with students and Yoshi gave the staff an insight into the cultural dance they performed. The students also taunted residents how to master the art of paper folding or origami.
ANZAC Day Craft Wreath Making
The crafters from both Ritz and Raffles at Merrimac Park Aged Care, got together and made beautiful poppy wreaths to be displayed and used as decoration during the ANZAC Ceremony. Residents utilized found materials and worked together cutting, painting, and gluing to create beautiful wreaths that were all unique in their own way.
Bean Bag Challenge
The Monthly Bean Bag Toss Challenge returns! With residing champion Heather defending her crown, Margaret N. came close to beating her but no dice! Michael demonstrated his skill throwing into the moving targets and gave the lifestyle team ideas on how to spice up the competition for next month.
ANZAC Day Service
On the 24th of April, we honoured our ANZAC’s with our special service led by Doug McDonald from the Returned and Services League (RSL). Special thanks to Pastor David, Margaret N. and Jeffery H. for reading Flanders Fields and the Ode for the Service.
Together, Mabel, Roger, John T., Jeff H., and Margaret N. laid the wreaths at the flagpole as we remembered and thanked the ones that came before us. Roger and Mabel shared their personal stories of their loved ones being involved in the wars. LEST WE FORGET!
Garden Appreciation Walks
Every Monday and Wednesday, Ritz and Raffles residents at the Aged Care Gold Coast facility got together to enjoy the scenery and garden with walks around the beautiful grounds.
